Reflexology
Reflexology is a non-invasive holistic therapy based on the belief that the organs and structures of the body are mirrored in miniature on the feet. In addition, the body is considered to be divided into ten longitudinal zones through which energy flows. A blockage of energy causes the body to be out of balance. The various parts of the feet that are linked to other areas of the body are known as reflex areas. By applying gentle pressure on reflex areas of the feet, corresponding areas of the body benefit and are brought into balance.
Since undertaking further training in Vertical Reflex Therapy (VRT) and Hand VRT with Lynne Booth in November 2004, I now incorporate these additional techniques in my treatments. Some clients prefer to have their hands treated rather than their feet.
Reflexology is beneficial because
- it promotes deep relaxation and re-energises the body
- it improves the elimination of waste and toxins
- it increases the blood circulation, thus improving the transportation of oxygen and nutrients to cells and organs
- it helps the body to heal itself
Reflexology can help to relieve the symptoms of many conditions including
- allergies
- arthritis
- anxiety
- back pain
- depression
- digestive problems
- fatigue
- headaches
- menopausal symptoms
- migraine
- PMT
- poor sleep pattern
- shoulder tension
- sinusitis
- skin conditions
- stress
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A TREATMENT ?
An initial appointment lasts an hour and includes a confidential, comprehensive consultation to establish your medical history and identify any health concerns. This ensures that reflexology is an appropriate treatment for you.
You only have to remove shoes and socks. The treatment begins and ends with a relaxing foot massage and the therapist gently manipulates the reflex areas of the whole foot. If only the hands are being treated, there is no need to remove any clothing.
After a treatment you should allow yourself time to relax further, drink plenty of water to flush out toxins and avoid tea, coffee and alcohol for five hours.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED ?
The number of treatments required varies with each individual and your therapist will be able to advise you at the end of the first treatment. As a rough guide, four to six weekly treatments is not unusual.
